What a Typical Reiki Session Entails

Reiki is a practice that continues to be utilized as a complementary remedy for individuals who want to undertake physical and emotional healing. Those with more serious conditions and ailments are said to have gotten good results by such an old practice.

Reiki can be used to take care of human beings as well as pets or animals. It’s regarded as organic or holistic and is a secure method of treatment. Reiki is about discipline. It can be applied in combination with normal medicine.

Before your first session, a Reiki practitioner will spend a few minutes describing the session to you and what you might expect. He or she will also give you an opportunity to discuss any particular issues you are experiencing and what you hope to achieve from your session.

For the actual session, you will rest comfortably and fully clothed on a massage table on your back with your shoes removed. You may spent part of the session face-up and then may be asked to turn over so the practitioner can work on the back part of your body. If a medical condition requires it, Reiki can be performed with you sitting in a chair as well.

A typical Reiki session may utilize a combination of hand positions beginning at the head and working down to the feet, but may spend more time working on specific areas of the body if the practitioner senses additional time is required. Some hand positions may be hands-on, where a light touch is applied or hands-off where the hands are held slightly above the body. Many people report feeling very relaxed, peaceful, feel warmth or tingling in various parts of their body or simply feeling a sense of improved well-being. Some people actually fall asleep during a session, which is wonderful for its ability to promote deep healing.

Due to the nature of Reiki, it is quite difficult to say exactly what will be experienced during a session. This will depend on any number of things including, but not limited to, the practitioner, each individual client, the level to which that client is able to open up to the energies, and what areas the energy itself is addressing. Often people describe their experience by saying they felt as if they are floating during the session, or they were being enveloped by or wrapped in a warm, loving, nurturing light that flowed throughout their being.

The results of a session are also quite dependent the same influences named in the beginning of the above paragraph. The most immediate broad spectrum results are a drastic reduction in stress, and an extreme sense of relaxation, similar to what people usually feel after a massage but it seems to be more profound and longer lasting, and an overall feeling of being more balanced, calm, and centered. These results are almost always attained through just one session. The more profound results that Reiki can yield (i.e., the “healing” of a specific dis-ease, release of habitual thought patterns or old emotional scars, etc.) are rarely attained through a single session, but instead must be addressed in the same way that many of them were manifested, over time.
